Argus Community Edition Privacy Notice

This notice covers the free Argus app you download from gird.ai. Our main privacy notice covers this website, your rights under the DPDP Act 2023, and how we respond to requests. Those apply here too.

The free Argus app you download from gird.ai sends some data to us so we can keep it stable, understand how it is used, and improve its protection. This section lists all of it.

What we never receive

The contents of your source files, and the contents of requests your AI agents send or the responses they get back.

What is sent to us

• App health and crash signals (always on): whether the app starts, crashes or stops unexpectedly, update results, and a crash fingerprint that contains no error messages or file paths. Sent with the app and macOS version and a random install ID.
• Product usage: counts of how the app is used, such as how many agents are watched, the kinds of agents and AI models in use, which features are used, and how accurately Argus detects risky activity. Sent with the same random install ID. That ID is linked to your Argus account. In the current version, the Telemetry setting in the app does not reduce what is sent.
• Security activity log (always on): the security events Argus records, including the program involved and whether an action was allowed or blocked, the destination of a connection when Argus flags it as risky (for example, a suspected data leak or a connection to a cloud credential service), the destinations of inspected connections if you turn on Look inside what your agents send, the type of any sensitive file an agent touched (for example, a cloud credential), a masked form of any secret Argus detects and, if it was found in an environment variable, that variable's name, and, for a command it treats as high risk, the program and the next few words of the command, which can include a destination such as user@host or a file path. Sent with the install ID and a scrambled identifier for your Mac. Your account email is attached.
• Account activity: your email, the ID of your Argus account, a scrambled identifier for your Mac, your app version and licence tier, and activity totals such as alerts raised and resolved, the kinds of agents in use, and whether each macOS permission is granted. Signing out stops new uploads until you sign in again; it does not delete what was already sent.

Other services involved

• Clerk provides sign-in, and Cloudflare Turnstile protects it from bots.
• Public WHOIS services receive the domain names your agents connect to, so Argus can flag domains that were registered recently.
• Your own AI provider, only if you add a key. Scoring runs on your Mac by default. If you add your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google key, that provider receives the agent activity being scored, including prompts, commands, file paths and hostnames, under that provider's own terms.

The app also downloads updates and public security lists. Those downloads carry no account details.

Where it is stored and for how long

• Data sent to us is stored on servers GIRD operates in India. Your sign-in details are also held by Clerk.
• App health, product usage, the security activity log and account activity are deleted automatically after 90 days.
• Your account record (email, account ID, identifiers and when you were last seen) is kept until you ask us to delete it.

Publishing statistics

We may publish aggregate statistics about how the community edition is used, such as the kinds of organisations or agents it is used with. We never publish a group smaller than five organisations, and we never name an organisation or a person without their explicit opt-in. To be left out of these statistics entirely, email hello@gird.ai.

Deleting your data

Email hello@gird.ai from the email address of your Argus account. Within 30 days of verifying the request, we delete the data linked to that account, including data from every Mac you signed in on. To stop new data from being sent, sign out and uninstall Argus on each Mac first. Uninstalling Argus and removing its data folder deletes what is kept on your Mac.

Changes to this notice

If the app starts sending something not listed here, we will update this notice before that version ships.
